Minato Park

This is placed on a small hill where it commands a panoramic view of the sea and city town.
It is also called "park of pine". Especially in mid-fall, the harvest moon on the sea through the pines is very beautiful.

Ihinkaku Ato

This was built by Tokugawa Mitsukuni in 1698 (Genroku 11). It was also called "Minato-Goten"," O-Hama-Goten."
However, it was burned down in 1864(Genjikoushi-no-ran), and was arranged and saved as a "Minato park" in 1897 (Meiji 30).

Sanjo-mon

This was equipped at Koishikawa mansion of Mito feudal clan in Edo (Tokyo) and transferred here in 1936. It is a historically important gate recalling the last days of the Tokugawa regime and the Meiji restoration.

Cannon Foundry

Tokugawa Nariaki was keen on national defense and built this in 1857. Holland techniques enabled it to be built and make about 20 cannons. This foundry was reconstructed in 1937.

Minatonokihan

This is one of eight picturesque places in Mito feudal domain selected by Tokugawa Nariaki.
It was built in 1834 and commands a fine view of the Pacific Ocean.

Kantojo

Tokugawa Nariaki visited Isozaki and praised the scenic spot he had heard so much of and chose it as an extra beautiful place added to the Mito domains eight picturesque places.

Hikanteiato

This is a small arbor built in 1790. This place overlooks Isozaki port and the endless Pacific Ocean spread ahead of us. In the north we can see Hitachinaka port and Tokaimura nuclear power plant through Ajigaura beach.

Layer of chalk formations of Mesozoic Era formed about 75 million years ago. It is the first discovery of the Mesozoic Era in Ibaraki prefecture. It is famous for the discovery of an ammonite in Japan.
