The Long-Term Insurance System
Holders of foreign registration cards must enroll in the Long-Term
Care Insurance System,if they have permanent residence status or special
permanent status, or if they are approved to stay in Japan for one year
or more, or if their situation indicates that they can be expected to
stay in Japan for one year or more.
You
can use the service if:
- You need continuous assistance with daily activities (People who
need nursing care.)
- You need assistance with housekeeping, dressing and other daily
activities but do not need continuous nursing care.

How
premiums are paid
- Category 1 Insured :
If you receive 15,000 yen or more in old age pension, retirement pension
or others,the premium is automatically deducted from your pension.
Others must pay the premium to the city directly.
- Category 2 Insured :
| If you are insured by Japan's national health insurance plan,pay
the premium to the city as part of your national health insurance
premium. |
| If you are insured by another health insurance or a mutual
aid society, the premium is automatically deducted from your
salary as part of the monthly medical insurance premium. |
