Procedures for staying in Japan

Extension of period of stay
This is done when you wish to extend the length of your stay in Japan.

Changing status of residence
If the purpose of your stay in Japan changes, an application to change your status of residence must be made.

Permission to engage in an activity other than those permitted under your status of residence
This permission is required when you wish to engage in a paid activity which is outside the sphere of activities permitted under your status of residence.

Re-entry permission
If you leave Japan temporarily and intend to return prior to the expiration of your current visa, you must apply for a Re-entry Permit prior to leaving Japan.

These procedures must be conducted at an Immigration Office.
