1.Japanese education system 
The school system in Japan consists of six years of elementary school,
three years of junior high school, three years of high school and four
years of university.Compulsory education lasts for nine years,from elementary
school through junior high school.If you have children who should be
attending an elementary school or junior high school,please apply at
the Educational Affairs Division of the Board of Education.For pre-school
children,there are kindergartens and day care centers.
*Enrolling in an elementary school
There are 20 public
elementary schools in Hitachinaka. In October, before your child
is due to enter first grade, information about health checkups will
be sent to you from the Board of Education.. In January, you will receive
enrollment information. Please submit confirmation to the school.
*Enrolling in a junior high school
In February, before your child is due to enter junior high school,
enrollment information will be sent. Please submit confirmation to the
school.
*Transfering to another school
When you move to the new address, apply to the school and the Board
of Education.
2.Kindergartens
There are 10 public
kindergartens and 6
private ones in Hitachinaka. If you are planning to enroll your
child, you can apply at the kindergarten directly
