City Profile
The city of Hitachinaka is about 110 km from Tokyo and is located in
the north east part of central Ibaraki Prefecture, it is bordered the
west by the Pacific Ocean and covers an area of 99.04 km 2. Two cities
were incorporated to become Hitachinaka in 1994. Our city is the forth
largest city in the prefecture with a population of 153,000.
Hitachinaka has been developed by commerce,industry,fisheries and agriculture.
The dried sweet potato is the most famous specialty, which is grown
and processed on many farms within the city.
Development projects in the Hitachinaka area, such as the Hitachinaka
Port and the North Kanto Express way, are based on the concept of 'Business
and Pleasure'. Also the Hitachi National Seaside Park is a beautiful
place to unwind with everything from jet coasters to various kinds of
blooming flowers year round. All of this is spread out over 1,182ha
of breath takingly beautiful coastal land.
Aiming to develop a more invigorating international city of Harbors
and Greened Environment, we are making efforts to create a green city
and to realize a comfortable living environment. Our aim is to be an
active city of exchange in goods, information and people in and outside
Japan.
